The Story of SnorEraser

Hello,
My name is Brian and I'd like to share with you the story of my quest to cure the sleep loss I was experiencing as a result of partner snoring noise.
I have been asked by customers, friends, relatives and business associates, to share with the world, the story behind SnorEraser. The following is that story told as briefly as possible. When my journey began, way back in the early 1990s, my intention was to find a snoring remedy that would not infringe on my partner in any way, with embarrassing gadgets and so forth. You know what I mean, you see them on TV all the time. I really believed that I could remedy this without confronting her about the snoring problem at all. I think that a lot of people probably feel that way, do you? Besides, it is not usually that easy to convince the snorer of the perils of life on the receiving end. The majority of people who snore, would not even be aware of the fact that they do, if there was not someone there to witness it and tell them about it, right? Have you ever had the opportunity to see the look of surprise on someone's face when you play back a recording of them snoring? If so, you know just how far removed they can be from the reality and impact of their snoring problem on others.
Unless the person who snores suffers from sleep apnea (for which they should seek medical attention), they are usually off in La La Land while we are left counting sheep, err snores! Yet there is an inordinate amount of products directed toward the people who actually do the snoring, is there not? As if there was not another side of the story at all. So I just kind of lived with the sleep loss, as most people do. During that time I had this gut feeling that there must be some way of finding a cure for myself, without having to drag her into it at all.
I found myself laying there, trying to fall asleep time and time again, wondering what I could do to get my sleep. My defense against the noise usually consisted of laying a pillow over my head, which I discovered is about as effective as a screen door in a submarine! Pillows do almost nothing to stop snore sound.
The funny thing is, the snoring that I am exposed to is not extremely loud (or particularly soft either), although it can vary toward one end of the spectrum on any given night. So I would find myself thinking... how huge is this particular sleep problem?
I must be only one of millions laying here right now thinking the same thoughts. I am not a light sleeper, but I often have difficulty falling asleep or getting back to sleep if I am disturbed by snoring during the night.
Well, on one particular fall afternoon in 1994, I had the unfortunate experience of having a firearm malfunction right next to my ear. As a result I lost a significant amount of hearing and still suffer from a condition known as tinnitus (a constant ringing or hissing) in that ear. After pursuing remedies down many endless roads, I came upon an audiologist who used a unique approach to curing the effects of tinnitus. She took molds of my ears, in order to provide me with custom fit, in ear, miniature white noise machines. The idea was to wear these in ear white noise machines for a minimum of eight hours a day, including nighttime use, with the intention of de-tuning my ear to the sounds of tinnitus. Two weeks and $1800.00 later the little gems came in. It would be an understatement to say that I was extremely excited about the prospects of curing my sensitivity to tinnitus. On the day of my training / pickup, the audiologist was showing me how to adjust and balance the white noise between the right and left ears. When something occurred to me! This is what I have been looking for... I can cure two problems with one white noise product! My tinnitus is going to stop hopefully AND these little white noise machines will stop the snoring sound too! Well... my tinnitus did improve substantially, but I was extremely disappointed when it came to the snoring issue! I found that unless I turned the volume up to the point where the white noise was very uncomfortable, even painful, it did not really mask the snoring sound at all! Talk about having the air let out of your balloon! Here I had custom fit, $1800.00 earplug / white noise machines RIGHT INSIDE MY EARS and I could still hear my wife snoring! Great! Wonderful! Now what?
THAT, I can safely say is the point when I said to myself, this has to stop, there absolutely has to be some remedy out there that can help me... and I will find it! Not realizing that I had already been using the best available cure at the time (the white noise boosted earplugs), because they combined the benefits of high reduction custom fit earplugs and white noise machines into one compact device. Another thing that I did not know back then was that white noise is so ineffective in masking snoring sound, that even when it is incorporated into earplugs, it still fails to stop snore noise. My custom earplugs were certainly no remedy for snoring, so I naively tried numerous other earplugs, every one of them claiming to be the best cure out there. I downloaded all sorts of white noise products, tried white noise machines and purchased expensive noise cancelling headphones, you name it I tried it. Well... after five years and countless hours of searching on the Internet, in books and inquiries with industry professionals. I became satisfied that there was no snore noise defense remedy out there that worked! So I threw in the towel and continued to lose a lot of sleep, like so many others do night after night! But, I still wanted to know why none of these things worked! How could this be? Is there really no way to bring snoring noise down to a zero recognition level and stop me from hearing the snore noise?

Then... while lying there sleepless one night, with my pillow over my head of course, it came to me out of the clear blue sky! A chill ran down my spine, the moment I had this idea because after all these years, I knew that I had THE ANSWER! The cure, remedy, whatever you want to call it. I knew that I had found a way to completely stop the sound from disturbing my sleep forever.
The original thought process went something like this; Given that IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO COMPLETELY STOP SNORING SOUND FROM REACHING YOUR INNER EAR (see Bone Conduction; Snoring and You video), it would be nice if people could just make one long continuous snore. Then at least the rest of us could sleep because we would no longer be pounded with the on and off fluctuations that are inherently come along with snoring.
I wondered: Is it just the sound quality of snoring that is keeping me awake? Or is it possible that the on and off, the intermittent nature of snoring is the greater or root cause of the sleep disturbance?
I realized that night that the only sound that can perfectly mask the sound of snoring turning on and off is snoring itself, but smoothed out into one continuous tone like an air conditioner or a fan. It is the perfect match and therefore wastes no sound, like white noise remedies. BUT, the big questions remained, would it be tolerable? Could it even be enjoyable??? Making it the ultimate cure.
There is only one way to find out right?
I could not sleep and wait until morning to test my theory, so I used my pocket digital recorder, gathered some samples and went right to my computer to get started working on it. I already loved playing with my audio editing software anyway and this was the perfect project!
At that point it was a newly formed idea, a hopeful possibility, I had no idea that it would work as well as it does! Making the Snore Eraser (two words at the time) prototypes was no easy task. I would not be satisfied with a sound that had any noticeable fluctuation at all, I knew that I would not be able to sleep with that going on. I thought that making a smooth, continuous snoring sound would be a simple process and that I should be able to have a working prototype ready in a few hours, THIS WAS NOT TO BE!
A few things had to come together simultaneously. A) The snore samples used had to embody the full range of sounds produced by the snorer and do this continuously.
